Hailing from northern Sweden, Daniel Blom has been taking photos for longer than he can remember; a childhood spent playing endlessly with his father's single-lens reflex camera before saving for a year to buy his own at the age of fourteen. His other passion was snowboarding, and so these two distinctly differing creative obsessions took hold, leading him to a stellar career as a globetrotting senior photographer for several international magazines and clothing brands.
Great snowboarding photography is a balance of opposites: the explosive nature of the sport, interacting with the frozen beauty of the mountain wilderness. This balance is at the heart of Blom's work: subtle, refined, responsive to subtle nuances of mood and light; yet somehow always with a sense of emotional intensity bubbling just beneath the surface.
Today, based in his Stockholm studio, Daniel is taking a style forged at high altitude into the realm of lifestyle, sports and landscape photography, with powerful results. Snowboarding's loss has become our gain.
